Buddy Boating with Dolce Vita 6th - 12th February 2020

Thursday 6th February 2020

We raised the anchor without a hitch even though it did take a while to do, due to there being a reasonable wind and not wanting to put any pressure on the windlass.  We had already phoned the Marina in La Cruz and knew what slip we had.  Knowing form past experience the trouble we have had mooring there we checked Windy.com and knew that at about midday the wind would be at its calmest.  We did put the headsail up for a short period of time and got over 5 knots of speed from Bamboo.  We dropped the sail as there was a problem with it.  We radioed ahead and set the lines in readiness for mooring up.  Everything went really well, which was a huge relief.  We signed in at the Marina Office and then the Harbour Master.  By the time we had done that it was pretty much time to see Dennis and Werner into their slip.  Dennis had trouble getting into his slip as the wind had increased somewhat.  So much so, they gave him another slip on a different dock.  We showered, which was heaven, we both couldn’t believe how salty our hair was.  We caught up with Izzy, who drove over to see us and went for street food.  We couldn’t get into the brown chair place and all the tables on the street were full and Dogs are not allowed inside.  So, we settled for the red chair place next door and had a lovely evening catching up....

Friday 7th February 2020

I didn’t sleep very well during the night, which was surprising considering we were not rocking and rolling.  We met Dennis and Werner for breakfast and had a generally lazy day.  We saw him off on the bus and later the three of us had Burritos at the Brown Chair place.  Far better than the place next door.  We even managed to get the churros from the street next door, so all in all a very successful evening.

Saturday 8th February 2020

We had a lazy breakfast and morning, then met up with Dennis with the intention of going into Puerto Vallarta to meet up with Izzy and Werner but going via the chandlery called Zaragoza.  However, by the time we got there the shop was closed as they are only open until 2pm on a Saturday.  Instead, we walked around Marina Vallarta and had a drink before getting an Uber into town to meet up with the others.  We had drinks and Tacos and then headed back to La Cruz on the bus.

Sunday 9th February 2020

We had an egg and bacon breakfast and then met up with Dennis to walk around the Market.  We bought some string beans and some mange tout to have with our dinner with Dennis.

We put the covers on the sails, put the blow-up kayak away and re tied the lines.  David on Eagle who was opposite Candy on Dock 6 in Mazatlan is next door but one from us here.  We popped over for a quick drink before cooking dinner here on Bamboo.  Dennis came over with a bunch of flowers, they were beautiful.

Monday 10th February 2020

We are up bright and early and showered before 8am as we had to make a couple of calls to the letting agent regarding one of the flats.  We managed a quick cup of tea and breakfast on the boat before heading into the town to drop laundry and buy a couple of bits for lunch.  We were back in plenty of time for Fernando, the mechanic to arrive.  Today we are having a lesson on how to change the Racor filter.  Hopefully, without getting any air into the system and causing another problem.  Fingers crossed.  Lesson went smoothly and we have also checked the transmission fluid and oil.  Dinner has been prepped, we’re using up some frankfurters and the last of the vegetable soup, which will be a sausage casserole of sorts with mashed potato.  John made the French 75’s which were promised yesterday.  Dinner was good, now for the Yahtzee Challenge.

Tuesday 11th February 2020

Today started with good intentions to wash to boat down, but that didn’t happen.  John was supposed to go over to Dolce Vita for 9am when Fernando was going to look at the cause of his engine vibration.  That didn’t happen either as he arrived early and is unable to do anything for a week.  So, we headed into La Cruz to see the canvas man, collect the washing and have one of the Croissants from the French Baker we had spied the other day.  The canvas man needs to re-do part of the work, the washing was duly collected, and the Croissant and the Garlic Bread were both excellent.  Once we had returned the washing back to the boat, we all headed back up to the top to catch the bus to Zaragoza, the chandlery which was closed on Saturday when we tried to go.  The trip was a success in that we got everything we wanted and didn’t come out with anything extra.  Dennis went off to meet friend who was in Paradise Village.  We came back, showered and headed to the brown chair restaurant. They were closed! That was a bit of a bummer, but what were we going to eat for dinner.  We walked all the way to the top again and got the equivalent of the $160 peso ‘Chicken Meal Deal’ to bring back to the boat to eat.  It was scrummy and there is even a small amount of chicken left for lunch tomorrow.  A film to finish the night off and we will be lucky to make it to ‘Cruisers Midnight’ (9pm). All in all, another successful day.

Wednesday 12th February 2020

Got up to go to the showers but the sunrise was so pretty we just had to take a picture of that and the kitties waiting for their breakfast.

Definitely a boat cleaning day today.  We have arranged for someone to come and polish and wax the stainless tomorrow as there is quite a lot of rust showing from the journey over.  Bamboo looks very clean, there is still lots of dust appearing from when the bottom was re-done.  We have also put a protective cover on the spring line which was beginning to chafe from the swell.  The wind has for us today, exactly as per the forecast.  John has paid for another week as Dennis isn’t seeing the engine guy until next week.  We went to the beach today and John had a swim, we can’t remember when we last did something like that.  We popped over to Dolce Vita and had a drink on Dennis’ boat and are going out for Pizza this evening. The Pizza was amazingly good, well worth going there again.
