Buddy Boating with Dolce Vita 13th - 20th February 2020

Thursday 13th February 2020

Today was a quiet day, I cleaned the Perspex on the boat and did a bit of dusting down below. We helped Dennis as he wanted to go up his mast as the anchor light isn’t working.  It wasn’t fixed, but he now knows what he needs to do.  We picked up a bit of Coriander and John is making a curry tonight for the three of us. I tried to catch up with home as I was here during the afternoon but failed miserably on that count.  We have had some guys polishing the stainless on the boat and she is positively gleaming in the sunlight.  They still need to finish the job tomorrow, but she is looking good.  John made a nice curry and we managed to freeze some too for when we are sailing.  We all watched the original version of The Italian Job.  You forget about some of the stars who were in the film like Benny Hill and John Le Mesurier.

Friday 14th February 2020

We woke but had a short lie in this morning.  There was a bit of a dew last night, so the deck is a bit damp.  I expect that’s why we slept so well last night as it must have been a bit cooler than normal for here.  The kettle is on for a nice cup of Yorkshire Tea.
John has just shown me a note from Big Wally which really made us laugh.
“It’s time to come home, I’m tired of the people at coffee, I’m even starting to miss Dennis, I already miss you and Sheila”
John is replying saying that it’s not all fun and Sanghria here and that Dennis had stupidly let us haul him up his mast and that he had been forced to watch the film.
We caught the bus into Bucerias and found a lovely patisserie where we had a lovely lunch and we came home it’s a couple of Danish Pastries which were delicious.  On our way back through the market on our way to the bus stop, we found the lady we bought Aileen’s bowl from and bought one for me.  The guys finished off the stainless and they have done a fantastic job, well worth remembering their names and getting it done here again.  We ate our Valentines Meal in Frascatti.  Very tasty as always, shared calamari starter followed by beef short rib for our main with a truffle mash.  We just had coffees to finish as we were full.

Saturday 15th February 2020

We were up at our usual time and managed to catch up with the kids and my parents on the iPad.  Didn’t get hold of Aileen but tried.  We had breakfast at the La Cruz Inn.  Dinner tonight is at Dennis’s, so we don’t need to worry about coking but do need to pick up some wine for later.  We bumped into Charity and Tim when we were looking for the wine and so have invited them for dinner on Monday evening on the boat.  As Dennis was getting fish and making his pie, we decided to get the bus to Punta De Mita to see what it was like there. John was very disappointed as he thought it has no atmosphere and was soulless.  I hadn’t really expected much in the first place but is wasn’t great.  There are lots of gated developments, be it condos or hotels and the area is really only very poor tourist shops or very expensive American ones.  If you want food, it’s an OXO and that’s about it.  We laughed on the bus on the way back as we had decided it was as bumpy on the bus ride back as the previous sail around the point.  Plus, we got just as wet as we both had a can of coke each which went absolutely everywhere.  We met Dennis in the Ballena Blanco on our way back and had a light bite to eat.   Dinner was really tasty; the Mahi Mahi was delicious cooked in a creamy sauce with whisky flamed with rice and sweet corn.  They apple pie was equally as tasty, we were thoroughly spoilt.  Not to forget the famous Margaritas at the beginning.  We met another cruiser, Will, who was ex US Navy and preferred to be out on the hook.

Sunday 16th February 2020

It’s starting off as a bit of a Groundhog Day so far as it’s market day and we will be leaving here at about 09:30 when Dennis has knocked to wander round.  Then it changes as this afternoon at 4pm there’s the tour of the paintings that have been done in the town.  There is also a showing of Parasite at Octopus Garden at 7pm, but I’m not sure we will be able to fit it all in.  The market was really busy and, on the way, back we bought the ingredients for tomorrows dinner.  The chicken in marinating in the yogurt, the masala and the Dahl have been cooked.  We walked back into the town for the art presentation and it was really quite hot.  The Art walk was rather slow in getting off to a start as the official who was invited to the proceedings who was fashionably late, then there were numerous speeches patting each other on the back.  So much so that we thought we would look at the pictures on our own at a later date and went and got our chicken dinner instead.  After dinner we walked along the beach to see if we could see where the baby turtles were hatching but found nothing.  We walked along the sea front and watched the sun go down and the boats at anchor.

Monday 17th February 2020

We slept like logs with all the hatches open during the night.  Just made tea and put the radio on to channel 22A to listen to the net.  All the beds are stripped in readiness for the walk up to the laundry.  The plan is to head off on Thursday after Dennis had seen the guy about his engine on Wednesday.  Kim and Clay are due in tomorrow now as they left Mazatlan later than expected.  We are tidying the boat for the dinner guests this evening and also putting things back where they belong before we leave the marina.  In reality we managed to get the washing collected and did poo patrol on deck.  The meal was delicious and very well received.  It was a lovely evening with Tim, Charity and Dennis.  The salad that went with the Butter Chicken totally went as did the strawberries which I had rinsed and sprinkled sugar on.  Time & Charity very kindly offered to give us a lift to the supermarket to buy provisions.

Tuesday 18th February 2020

Up early and showered, listened partially to the net and getting ready to go to total Vela and to buy some Mahi Mahi this morning for dinner tonight.  Bought some dock lines and spring lines.  We also found some cones for the rolling, not sure how effective they will be.  Tim came over to the boat and John walked over with him to Dolce Vita to too look at the rigging.  There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with the set up in Tim’s eyes.  He made a couple of suggestions of what could be done if Dennis wanted to make some small adjustments.  We bought our provisions in readiness for the next part of the trip.  Kim and Clay came in after 5pm and we all arranged to go to the Brown Chair restaurant for Burritos.  Unfortunately, it was closed, as was Tacos on the street but we found somewhere anyway.

Wednesday 19th February 2020

We were up early, and John went over to Dolce Vita as Fernando was looking at Dennis’ engine and shaft to try and rectify the vibration.  I filled the water tanks and moved the swim step.  Fernando is coming back tomorrow, so our departure date is delayed by at least one day.  We bought some Mahi Mahi to cook the Riverford Cottage recipe on the boat.  We also went to the butcher to order some meat for collection tomorrow. Dinner was lovely, Clay and Kim came too and Kim had made a lovely Banana cake.  There was a small amount of dinner left over for lunch tomorrow.
So tomorrow we need to refuel, sign out and collect our meat.  Let’s hope the verdict on Dennis’ coupling in good, fingers crossed.  We are also hoping to get a Dock 7 Safety meeting group photo as Brian and Hiromi are going to be here tomorrow as well.  John and Dennis looked at the route for when we leave and they have decided to miss out Yelapa, which is no great loss, and go straight to Chimaela.

Thursday 20th February 2020

Today John went to watch Dennis and Fernando regarding the shaft, engine mounts and the coupling.  It has been agreed that Dennis when returns the boat will need to come out of the water and have the shaft looked at as they think it could be bent.  We collected our meat from Kenny the butcher and a few bits we had forgotten.  The brown chair restaurant was booked for the evening after drinks on Dennis boat.  We took a group photo of the drinks and sent it to Don and Leanna to prove the ‘safety meetings’ were still continuing.  So, dinner was with ‘Lovely Reta’ John & Debby, ‘Dolce Vita’ Dennis, ‘Willow’ Kin and Clay and last but not least ‘Angelique II’ Hiromi and Brian.  It was a lovely evening and as usual the food was excellent.  Debby said she had a sewing machine going, which I showed and interest in... we will wait and see.
